A Focus on Fitness
Join us for a daily exercise class (no class on Sunday) or visit the exercise room on your own. For the residents who love to walk, we have a great walking path around the building and a pleasant neighborhood to roam.
Faith Based Activities
Weekly, local clergy from the Lake Oswego area provide a variety of faith-based services. A faithful volunteer facilitates a weekly Bible study. In addition, coordinated transportation to local places of worship's available.
Computer Lab
Computer learning's easy on our community computers.
Trips and Outings
Our Activity Director puts together a special calendar of events to enjoy. Outings such as scenic drives, museum tours, theater productions, musical performances, nursery tours, shopping excursions, lunch outings, and trips to the bank or cleaners are scheduled.
Special Monthly Activities
Music and performance, and special celebrations are important at Carman Oaks. We celebrate birthdays, holidays, and anything else we can come up with! We also hold special in-house musical performances, including local singing groups, bands, or jazz groups.
Resident Gatherings/Groups
Bridge Groups-Our avid bridge players play several evenings a week. Lessons for beginners, provided by residents, are part of the fun.
Mah Jongg-Friday afternoon the Mah Jongg players can be seen in the 4th floor common area, enjoying the game and their time together.
Sew & So-Residents who take part in any kind of needle work gather to chat and work on their individual masterpieces.
Book Club-Monthly, a book is chosen and read. The group assembles to discuss their read.
Monthly New Comers-Once a month, recently moved-in residents gather, along with staff, to get to know each other and build relationships with others going through a similar “new” experience.
Wing Socials-On a rotating monthly bases, individuals living along the same hallway meet and chat about a common topic. This is a well-received community-building activity.
Resident Council-Led by a resident-elected board, our council has an open meeting for residents every other month to discuss what's going on in the community.
Town Hall Meetings-As another communication opportunity between residents and management, meetings are scheduled on opposite months of the Resident Council. The Executive Director conducts this meeting to keep residents informed of any upcoming projects, as well as provide updates on previous mentioned concerns. This is a great opportunity to give and receive feedback and suggestions.
Hospitality Committee-A committee of residents, those with a heart for making people feel welcome, are some of the first people new residents meet. They invite new residents for a few meals and go over information, “resident style." This time is also when a new resident may prefer to ask questions of a seasoned resident rather than staff.
Gardeners-When the sun shines you can be sure to see fellow gardeners out working on their raised garden bed or plot. At peak season, a staff member or two have been known to find tomatoes or a giant squash on their desk.
Red Hat Club-Our community's never more colorful than when a Red Hat Tea is going on, or the whole group of ladies (with red hats and boas), load the bus and head out to a local restaurant.
Educational Talks-Join our in-house “experts” as they share experiences and knowledge with other residents. Whether it's a series on the Far East, or talks on the forestry industry, camellias, collections, or whatever ~ there's always praise heard following the sessions.
Lending Library-Volunteers diligently keep our lending library current, varied, and well-organized.
Health Related-Regular blood pressure and hearing clinics are held monthly, and we provide transportation to physicians on a scheduled basis. Along with an Assisted Living Community on site, we partner with other health-related agencies.
Important Relationships-Carman Oaks enjoys many community relationships, including several with local schools and churches, the Bank of Oswego (they are present on-site weekly), the Chamber of Commerce, the Lyons (we collect many eye glasses) and the Lake Oswego Adult Community Center.
